Stellar Storytelling Through Analog & Mixed Media CollagE.
As a career creative who continually built lifestyle brands for a decade, I felt immense pressure to curate a well-crafted story but was ultimately stifled by the necessity to meet the palatability of modern mass consumption. The essence of storytelling—allusion, metaphor, the juxtaposition of text and image— was lost within a microsecond no matter how dimensional the statement.
Beginning to collage again in recent years, for the first time since childhood, I began to understand that I wasn’t meant to simply create content, but dismantle and reimagine it. To tell a bigger story. Developing deeper contexts, exploring social constructs, and weaving grander allegories that emerge the longer that you look are at the heart of my practice.
Collage provides an artist the opportunity to architect new realities through the lens of what already exists— past and present— I consider that a privilege. While I am enchanted by obscure, fanciful works and wild unrealities in much of collage art, I, personally, find developing a series of work that promotes discovery or makes you stop and think is my true purpose. Add a dash of whimsy, an eye for elegance and an unrelenting urge to take a creative risk to the edge, that’s who I am as an artist.
